Punjab Launches Evidence-Based Traffic Challan System With Video and Photo Proof

Punjab launches evidence-based traffic challan system

LAHORE — Punjab has launched an evidence-based traffic challan system that will issue traffic tickets with video footage and photographs to improve transparency and fairness across the province.

Under the new system, motorists who commit a traffic violation will receive an SMS from 8070 containing a link to the evidence of the offence. The link will allow them to view videos and images related to the traffic challan.

According to the Traffic Police spokesperson, all traffic challans across Punjab will now be issued through the Traffic Police One App with supporting digital evidence. The initiative was introduced on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to make the challaning process more transparent, convenient and accountable.

DIG Traffic Punjab Muhammad Waqas Nazeer said the evidence-based system will reduce unnecessary disputes between motorists and traffic police while saving time for both sides.

He added that the digital evidence will also help authorities take stronger legal action against motorists who fail to pay their traffic challans.

The DIG said the use of modern technology is making public services more efficient and citizen-friendly. He added that transparent, timely and fair enforcement of traffic laws is essential for building a progressive and well-organised society.
