Punjab Police have carried out major anti-terror operations across the province over the past 18 months. During this period, the force successfully foiled 31 attacks planned by the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), also known as Khawarij.
Officials reported on Saturday that 22 of these attempts were stopped in Dera Ghazi Khan. The remaining nine were blocked in Mianwali. These security operations led to deadly encounters, killing 43 foreign terrorists during police retaliation.
However, these Punjab Police anti-terror operations came with sacrifices. At least 15 police officers were seriously injured while taking action against the Khawarij militants. The law enforcement response in both districts was described as swift and effective.
Inspector General of Police Punjab, Usman Anwar, praised the force. He called the performance “impressive” and said police units remained alert to deal with any threat. “Our checkpoints in border zones have been made stronger to block any infiltration,” he stated.
The IG emphasized the latest upgrades in technology. Border police posts now have thermal imaging cameras, advanced firearms, and modern surveillance systems. These tools are being used to monitor sensitive areas 24/7.
Usman Anwar noted that officers stationed at tri-border outposts were maintaining top-level vigilance. He said their constant alertness was crucial to intercepting threats before they could reach civilian areas.
The Punjab Police anti-terror operations are part of a larger strategy. This ongoing crackdown on militants aims to ensure peace across the province by eliminating terror elements before they can strike.
With repeated attacks thwarted and strict security in place, the counter-terror efforts show the commitment of Punjab Police to defend the province from extremist violence.
