Railway operations in Balochistan resume after three-day suspension

Pakistan Railways has restored railway operations in Balochistan after a three-day suspension, resuming train services under the regular timetable from Saturday.

Officials confirmed that railway operations in Balochistan have returned to normal, with the Jaffar Express departing from Quetta to Peshawar at its scheduled time. The return service from Peshawar to Quetta also resumed on Saturday morning, restoring key passenger connectivity across the province.

Earlier, railway operations in Balochistan had been suspended due to what authorities called “unavoidable circumstances.” The suspension affected multiple routes, including services to and from Quetta. The Jaffar Express departure from Quetta was halted, while the return train from Peshawar was sent back from Jacobabad. Other services, including the Bolan Mail and Chaman passenger trains, were also temporarily stopped.

The disruption also impacted train services from Karachi, where several departures faced delays. The Tezgam left much later than its scheduled time, leading to passenger frustration at Cantt Station. The Sukkur Express also remained delayed, causing further inconvenience for travelers.

The recent disruption came shortly after a deadly explosion near a railway track in Quetta’s Chaman Phatak area, which resulted in the loss of 14 lives, including Frontier Corps personnel, and left several others injured. Women and children were also among the injured and were shifted to hospitals for treatment.

Following the incident, security concerns increased across the region, directly affecting railway operations in Balochistan. However, Pakistan Railways has now resumed services under normal schedules, aiming to restore passenger confidence.

Senior military leadership also responded strongly to the attack, vowing to continue efforts against terrorism. Authorities reiterated that such incidents would not weaken the country’s resolve and that operations against militant networks would continue in coordination with law enforcement agencies.

With services now restored, passengers across Balochistan are expected to benefit from improved connectivity as railway operations in Balochistan return to their regular schedule.
