LAHORE: Pakistan national team former skipper and wicketkeeper Rashid Latif, has thrown this support behind Mohammad Rizwan for a wicketkeeping role in the T20 World Cup starting from tomorrow in the United States and West Indies.
Rashid Latif suggested that a more experienced player should assume the wicketkeeping responsibilities currently held by Mohammad Rizwan.
Expressing his viewpoint on a local sports program, Latif argued that Rizwan’s talents are not being fully utilized and that a senior player could provide better support to the team’s captain. He stressed the pivotal role of a wicketkeeper as the captain’s key ally, citing their capacity to assess the game and aid the skipper in decision-making.
Latif’s comments come amid Pakistan’s disappointing 2-0 loss in the T20I series against England, with the team grappling with issues related to communication and batting in the middle order.
Additionally, former captain Shoaib Malik has advised Babar Azam to consider batting at number three instead of opening the innings. This recommendation underscores the necessity for a batsman capable of maintaining strike rotation in the middle order.
As Pakistan gears up for the T20 World Cup 2024, commencing on June 6 against the USA, there is intensified scrutiny on the team’s wicketkeeping arrangements and batting strategies.
