Rawalakot: Security Forces Take Control After Tense Situation in the City

Rawalakot

Security forces have taken control of Rawalakot after a tense situation in the city following recent unrest. Law enforcement agencies dispersed protesters gathered near Supply Bazaar and in front of CMH, restoring order in key areas.

The city remains largely shut down, with markets closed and streets deserted. All major entry routes to Rawalakot are now sealed with security checkpoints as authorities continue monitoring the situation.

According to the spokesperson of the Inspector General of Police, militants linked to a banned action committee attempted to disturb peace on June 7 by opening fire on law enforcement personnel in a planned attack. The same group also laid siege to CMH Rawalakot, which severely disrupted hospital services and medical operations.

Officials said a coordinated and restrained operation was carried out between the night of June 7 and 8 to clear the hospital. Priority was given to protecting civilians, patients, medical staff, and public property, and the hospital was fully secured and later restored to normal functioning.

The IG Police spokesperson confirmed that medical services at CMH Rawalakot have now resumed. Since June 6, four security personnel have been martyred in firing incidents, including three police officers and one Frontier Constabulary member, while several others were injured.

Authorities also stated that three individuals from the banned group died in indiscriminate firing during the clashes, with others injured in the process. The group had earlier been declared banned by the Azad Kashmir government, and a strike call was issued for June 9.
