Religious leaders ban musical gatherings, torches instruments in Landikotal

LANDIKOTAL: Religious leaders on Friday allegedly announced the restriction on musical gatherings and torched musical instruments and CDs in Landikotal sub-division of Khyber Agency.
Organisers of a religious seminary ‘Khanqah-e-Binoria’ including Syed Mohammad Ilyas Banuri alias Khan Lala and Syed Muhammad Ibrahim alias Bacha Jan had allegedly banned musical gatherings in the Shinwari Ashkhel area.
The elders warned that the houses of those either holding musical gatherings or in possession of musical instruments would be burnt.
After Friday prayers in the presence of hundreds of people, the religious leaders allegedly burnt the instruments. The elders claimed that the ban was imposed after consultations with the local political administration.
However, Assistant Political Agent, Niaz Mohammad said that the administration has summoned Khan Lala after taking notice of the incident. He said that the administration will ask Khan Lala that in what capacity he made such statements in when there is a political administration available.
