Snowfall Traps IDPs in Tirah Valley, Rescue Operation Underway

Web Desk: A rescue operation is underway in Tirah Valley of Khyber district to safely evacuate internally displaced persons (IDPs) who were stranded due to recent heavy snowfall.

According to Deputy Commissioner Khyber Bilal Shahid, timely measures were taken under the supervision of the district administration, ensuring that all affected families remained safe.

The deputy commissioner said that a relief goods consignment was delivered to Painda Cheena late at night, while stranded families were shifted to a local school and hostel for temporary shelter. Blankets were distributed among the affected families, and sweaters and other essential items were provided to children.

He added that prompt relief operations by the provincial government, Pakistan Army, and Frontier Corps helped ensure immediate assistance to all displaced families. Rescue activities continued from Nangrosa to Doh Toi and from Doh Toi to Larbagh, while clearance operations on other roads are still in progress.

According to the district administration, women and children were evacuated first, followed by men, under close monitoring by rescue teams.

However, due to ongoing snowfall, the evacuation process has been temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure.

Officials said the situation is being closely monitored and that relief and evacuation operations will resume as soon as weather conditions improve.
