Resistance against Taliban rule is gaining momentum in Afghanistan, with armed groups reportedly carrying out a series of quick attacks in different regions. The groups say the pressure is steadily eroding the authority of the Taliban government.
The claims below were made by the groups themselves and have not been independently verified.
Kandahar Attack: Taliban Morals Official Targeted
The Afghanistan United Front said it carried out a targeted operation in Khakrez district of Kandahar, killing Abdul Rahman, a Taliban official responsible for enforcing the group’s Promotion of Virtue rules.
According to the front, he was involved in mistreating civilians, beating people, making illegal arrests, and bringing false charges against residents.
Nangarhar Prison Intelligence Chief Reported Killed
Separately, the National Mobilization Front said it killed the head of intelligence at Nangarhar Prison in Jalalabad during an operation against the Taliban.
The front added that its guerrilla operations will go on until the Afghan Taliban, ISIS and the TTP are fully eliminated.
What the Latest Resistance Against Taliban Rule Shows
Taken together, the two statements point to armed activity in more than one province. Both groups describe their targets as officials they blame for harming ordinary Afghans.
