Rawalpindi: Retired Lt. Col. Akbar Hussain has been sentenced to 14 years in prison by the Field General Court Martial for inciting military personnel to mutiny, according to a statement from the Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR) Department of the Pakistan Army.
The ISPR confirmed that Akbar Hussain was convicted on charges of inciting military personnel to mutiny. His rank has been confiscated since July 26.
Additionally, Major (Retd.) Adil Raja and Captain (Retd.) Haider Raza Mahdi have also been court-martialed.
Reports indicate that Akbar Hussain was involved in inciting chaos and mischief during the May 9 events, demonstrating anti-nationalism by encouraging unrest and spreading false information against Pakistan’s security agencies.
Akbar Hussain, who served in the army in the past, was accused of receiving foreign funding and using the name of the Pakistan Army to spread fabricated lies and propaganda. His social media activities included sharing false news of unrest in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and blaming the army for terrorism incidents in Balochistan. His actions have been characterized as supporting Indian propaganda against Pakistan.
The accusations of treason and foreign funding against Akbar Hussain have been substantiated by numerous pieces of evidence. The authorities are urged to take strict action against those involved in anti-national activities and inciting terrorism and violence.
