The Russian Defense Minister highlighted the increasing threat of terrorism emerging from Afghanistan, describing it as a significant challenge to regional peace and stability.
Since the Afghan Taliban seized power in 2021, the country has turned into a haven for extremist groups, fostering conditions conducive to insurgency and disorder.
“The situation in Afghanistan has tragically become favorable for terrorists,” stated the Defense Minister, emphasizing the seriousness of the matter. The Afghan Taliban’s involvement in sheltering and funding terrorist organizations such as the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) has heightened tensions, spreading a sense of insecurity throughout the region.
Addressing the impact on neighboring Pakistan, the Defense Minister highlighted the widespread influence of terrorism originating from Afghanistan, evident from the capture of Afghan militants within Pakistan and their subsequent revelations. Such incidents, he asserted, provide clear evidence of the Afghan Taliban’s insincerity in combating terrorism.
The issue gained attention on the international stage during the recent meeting of defense ministers from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Kazakhstan. Discussions revolved around the dangerous spread of terrorism from Afghanistan to the global stage, prompting urgent appeals for coordinated efforts to counter this growing threat.
Despite assurances from the Afghan Taliban regarding non-aggression against other nations, the reality on the ground tells a different story, with terrorist activities persisting unchecked. The Defense Minister’s firm stance reflects the increasing international recognition of Afghanistan’s role as a breeding ground for extremist violence.
With the threat of terrorism looming large, the Defense Minister called for swift and decisive action by the international community to halt the wave of attacks originating from Afghan territory. Failing to address this urgent issue, he warned, could lead to a dangerous escalation of terrorism, endangering the security of the entire region.
