T20I captain Salman Ali Agha has pledged to donate his entire earnings from the Sharjah tri-series to flood victims across Pakistan. He confirmed that fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi will also contribute his prize money to support people devastated by the recent monsoon disaster.
In a heartfelt message on X, Salman Ali Agha wrote: “Currently our country is going through a difficult time. Myself and Shaheen Afridi will donate tri-nation series earnings to all affected by floods back home.” He further urged fellow cricketers to step forward, saying, “I’d encourage our stars to donate in rebuilding for those whose lives are destroyed.”
The announcement came as Pakistan reels from yet another destructive monsoon season. This marks the second catastrophic flood in just three years. According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), more than 900 people have lost their lives since late June. Over 1,400 villages in Punjab have been submerged, while more than one million residents have been displaced.
Meanwhile, the pledge was timed with Pakistan’s emphatic 75-run win over Afghanistan in the tri-series final at Sharjah. Spinner Mohammad Nawaz stole the spotlight with his best-ever bowling spell, claiming 5/19 to destroy Afghanistan’s innings.
Defending a total of 141, Pakistan bowled Afghanistan out for only 66 runs. Shaheen Afridi made an early breakthrough by removing Rahmanullah Gurbaz in the opening over. Soon after, Nawaz took centre stage with a stunning hat-trick. He dismissed Darwish Rasooli, Azmatullah Omarzai, and Ibrahim Zadran in quick succession.
Nawaz wasn’t done yet. He added Karim Janat and captain Rashid Khan to his tally, completing his maiden five-wicket haul. His brilliance sealed Pakistan’s dominance on the field.
Earlier, Pakistan’s batting line-up had its struggles. Opener Sahibzada Farhan fell early, and wickets continued to tumble. However, Salman Ali Agha played a steady knock of 24 from 27 balls. Alongside Nawaz, who scored 25 off 21, he guided Pakistan to a respectable 141-8.
For Afghanistan, Rashid Khan picked three wickets while Noor Ahmad and Fazalhaq Farooqi took two each. Yet, the night belonged to Nawaz, and the leadership of Salman Ali Agha shone both on and off the field—first with his innings and later with his noble gesture.
