Sana Yousaf murder case: court records witness statements, hearing adjourned

Sana Yousaf murder case witness statements recorded

ISLAMABAD: A local court on Tuesday recorded additional witness statements in the murder case of 17-year-old TikToker Sana Yousaf and adjourned proceedings until the next hearing.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka presided over the case. Prosecutor Raja Naveed Hussain Kiani appeared before the court as the prosecution continued to strengthen its case by presenting more witnesses.

Before the hearing concluded, defence counsel for the accused, Umar Hayat, requested the court to shift his client to a different prison barrack, arguing that he is currently being housed with dangerous inmates. The court reserved its decision but issued instructions to the superintendent of Adiala Jail to ensure the accused’s safety.

All case property, including investigation material and prosecution evidence related to the murder, has been submitted to the court. The next hearing has been scheduled for February 10, when the prosecution will continue recording statements of remaining witnesses.

Prior to the hearing, a suspected individual was detained from the courtroom after alleged threats were reported against the accused. Defence counsel claimed that both he and his client had received warnings that a contract had been issued to kill Umar Hayat.

The judge ordered legal action against the suspect and directed police to proceed in accordance with the law. The individual, identified as Usama, was handed over to police custody.

Sana Yousaf was shot dead at her residence in Islamabad’s G-13 sector on June 2, 2025. Police arrested Umar Hayat from Faisalabad within 20 hours of the incident and recovered the weapon allegedly used in the crime.

Initial investigations stated that the accused had repeatedly tried to contact Sana Yousaf and allegedly killed her after she refused. He later recorded a confession under Section 164, according to investigators.
