Islamabad High Court’s Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb has raised concerns over the conduct of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) activist Sanam Javed. During a hearing seeking her release, Justice Aurangzeb pointed out instances of inappropriate language used by Javed online.
Javed has been entangled in legal disputes for months, stemming from the May 9 riots triggered by the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan. The aftermath saw vandalism at military installations. Despite facing multiple arrests, Javed has been acquitted in four cases, including one filed by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), and granted bail in eight others.
Recently, the high court intervened after Javed’s father petitioned against her latest arrest following her FIA case discharge. The court’s order secured her release and barred further arrests until today.
Earlier, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House housed Javed on orders from KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur. During today’s hearing, Javed’s lawyer assured the court of her refraining from inappropriate language in the future.
Meanwhile, Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan clarified that Balochistan police had not pursued transit remand for Javed. This comment pertains to her latest case under the Anti-Terrorism Act in Balochistan.
The court concluded by declaring Javed’s arrest “illegal” and dismissed the plea. Her lawyer, Advocate Mian Ali Ashfaq Ali, stated that the attorney general had guaranteed no further arrests for Javed nationwide. He also mentioned assurances of case withdrawals in Balochistan and Islamabad within two days.
Regarding Javed’s language use, Advocate Ali apologized to the court on her behalf and pledged caution moving forward, addressing Justice Aurangzeb’s concerns.
