Sarfraz Bugti, the caretaker interior minister, has retracted his earlier statement about Nawaz Sharif’s potential arrest. He stated that his initial comments were taken out of context regarding Nawaz Sharif’s arrest. This clarification comes after facing strong backlash from PMLN leaders in response to Bugti’s initial statement on Nawaz Sharif’s arrest.
Previously, Bugti had mentioned on a television show that Nawaz Sharif would be arrested upon arrival if he failed to secure bail in the cases against him. He also stated that no political workers would be allowed within the premises of the airport, deeming it a sensitive zone. Bugti had further commented that if Nawaz Sharif couldn’t secure bail from the court, his arrest would not be a significant issue.
In response to Bugti’s statement, former Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah tweeted, “Stop worrying about Nawaz Sharif, focus on your own duties. Where else would Nawaz Sharif go on the 21st of October, The decision would be in the hands of the people, not the federal interior minister.”
The Ministry of Interior later tweeted on X, stating that former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would be treated in accordance with the law. They acknowledged the anticipation and welcome from a significant portion of the Pakistani population for the former prime minister.
