Saudi Arabia’s cabinet on Tuesday commended the results of a three-way summit involving Turkiye and Pakistan, describing it as a foundation for a lasting defense partnership among the three nations. The gathering, held in Jeddah under King Salman’s chairmanship, marked a notable step in trilateral security cooperation.
During the session, ministers extended their gratitude to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for the work that went into what has been named the Makkah Summit for Common Defense.
Cabinet Highlights Benefits of the Trilateral Agreement
According to the cabinet’s statement, the Saudi Arabia Turkiye Pakistan defense pact is expected to strengthen coordination and integration among the three countries. Officials said the arrangement would also support joint action on regional challenges while contributing to broader international security and stability.
Turning to wider regional matters, the cabinet noted that Saudi Arabia continues working alongside partner nations to encourage de-escalation and push for diplomatic resolutions, all while respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of other states.
Ministers also underscored the significance of safeguarding maritime routes through the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab al-Mandeb, calling secure passage through these waterways essential to maintaining global economic stability.
Response to Houthi Threats and Yemen Situation
The cabinet voiced support for a recent statement from UN Security Council members that condemned attacks carried out by Yemen’s Houthi militia, actions it said endanger regional security and freedom of navigation.
Saudi officials reaffirmed the kingdom’s right to protect its security and defense capabilities, alongside continued backing for Yemen’s internationally recognised government and ongoing UN-led efforts toward peace and stability in the country.
Cabinet Reiterates Position on Jerusalem and Gaza
On the Palestinian issue, the cabinet pointed to discussions from a recent ministerial meeting in Amman focused on supporting Jerusalem and protecting its holy sites.
Saudi Arabia restated its firm rejection of any attempt to change Jerusalem’s legal and historical status or alter its identity. The cabinet also urged the international community to act against Israeli violations in Gaza and the West Bank, safeguard religious sites, and stand behind the Palestinian people.
