ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court Thursday converted the death sentence of a murder convict into life imprisonment giving him the benefit of doubt.
A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa heard the case filed by accused Muhammad Riaz who was awarded capital punishment by a trial court over alleged murder of a women in Attock some 28 years ago.
Later, Lahore High Court maintained the trial court verdict.  Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa remarked that it seemed that original matter was different.  Advocate Saddique Khan Baloch appeared before the bench on behalf of the accused and said there was big difference in medical report and First Information Report  (FIR). The court after hearing arguments converted the death sentence into life imprisonment giving him the benefit of doubt.
