SC halts increase in drug prices until appointment of DRAP chief

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) Friday summoned Khawar Maneka , his son Ibrahim Maneka and Ahsan Jameel on September 3 (Monday) in controversial transfer of Pakpattan DPO.
A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar heard a suo motu notice of the transfer of Pakpattan DPO Rizwan Gondal under alleged pressure from Maneka family.
The SC also summoned DIG Shehzada Sultan, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar’s personal secretary and his chief security officer.
During the hearing, the chief justice remarked that he wanted an independent police force. He hinted at using Article 62(1)(f), if the transfer was made on the request of the chief minister or the person sitting next to him.
“We will not tolerate political interference or influence,” Justice Ijazul Ahsan remarked.
The court ordered Khawar Maneka and Ahsan Jameel to appear before it before 4pm today. However, later the bench adjourned the hearing till Monday, directing them to appear before it on next hearing date.
The court also directed DPO Rizwan Umar Gondal and RPO to submit affidavits.
