Pakistan’s security forces carried out multiple counter-terrorism operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, eliminating 13 militants. The military’s media wing, ISPR, confirmed the operations took place on February 12 and 13.
According to the statement, security forces launched an intelligence-based operation in Khulachi, Dera Ismail Khan, targeting suspected militants. During the raid, five terrorists, including Shah Gul alias Rohani, were killed.
Two more engagements took place in North Waziristan’s Dosali and Tappi areas. In these encounters, security personnel effectively neutralized five militants. Another operation was conducted in Lakki Marwat, where two terrorists were shot dead.
In Khyber district’s Bagh area, security forces eliminated one more militant. Weapons and ammunition were recovered from the deceased terrorists, who had been involved in multiple attacks against both civilians and military personnel.
Following these anti-terror operations, security forces launched further sweeps to ensure no remaining threats in the area. The military reiterated its commitment to eradicating terrorism from Pakistan.
These counter-terrorism efforts come as Pakistan faces a surge in militant attacks. Since the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan in 2021, violence has escalated, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
In January 2025, terror incidents saw a 42% increase compared to December 2024, according to data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS). A total of 74 militant attacks were reported nationwide, resulting in 91 deaths. The casualties included 35 security personnel, 20 civilians, and 36 militants. Another 117 individuals sustained injuries.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remained the most affected region. Settled districts witnessed 27 attacks, causing 19 fatalities, including 11 security personnel, six civilians, and two militants. The tribal districts, formerly part of FATA, saw 19 attacks, leading to 46 deaths. Among the victims were 13 security personnel, eight civilians, and 25 militants.
Pakistan’s counter-terrorism operations remain ongoing as security forces intensify efforts to restore stability and prevent further militant activity.
