RAWALPINDI: In a decisive counter-terrorism effort, security forces killed 30 terrorists during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in South Waziristan. The military’s media wing, ISPR, confirmed the success of the South Waziristan operation on Tuesday.
According to the ISPR, security forces launched the offensive on February 17, 2025, in Sararogha, South Waziristan, following reports of militant activity. Troops engaged the terrorists, eliminating 30 insurgents. A thorough clearance operation is underway to neutralize any remaining threats. The ISPR emphasized that security forces remain committed to eradicating terrorism from the country.
This South Waziristan operation follows another recent military action in North Waziristan, where six militants were killed. The operation, conducted in Miran Shah, also resulted in the martyrdom of four Pakistan Army soldiers. Among them was Lieutenant Muhammad Hassaan Arshaf, who led his troops bravely. Naib Subedar Muhammad Bilal, Sepoy Farhat Ullah, and Sepoy Himat Khan also sacrificed their lives in the firefight.
Pakistan has faced a surge in militant attacks since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in 2021. The unrest has particularly affected Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, with security personnel being prime targets.
Data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) revealed that January 2025 saw a 42% spike in terror incidents compared to the previous month. The country recorded 74 attacks, resulting in 91 fatalities. Among the deceased were 35 security personnel, 20 civilians, and 36 militants. Additionally, 117 people sustained injuries, including 53 security officials and 54 civilians.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remained the most affected province, followed by Balochistan. In KP’s settled districts, militants launched 27 attacks, causing 19 deaths. These included 11 security personnel, six civilians, and two insurgents. Meanwhile, the tribal districts of KP saw 19 attacks, claiming 46 lives. Among them were 13 security officials, eight civilians, and 25 militants.
The recent South Waziristan operation underscores Pakistan’s continued struggle against terrorism. Security forces remain vigilant, determined to dismantle militant networks and restore stability in the region.
