BANNU: Security forces successfully foiled a terrorist attack on Bannu Cantt on Monday. No casualties have been reported so far.
According to media reports, the terrorists arrived at the Cantt at 4:40 am and detonated a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (IED) on the road situated between the outer wall of Bannu Cantonment.The terrorists attempted to breach the Cantt by detonating the IED between the outer wall and the supply depot.
However, the security forces stationed at the Cantonment responded promptly, effectively cornering the attackers and preventing them from breaching the perimeter. The timely action by the security forces ensured that the terrorists’ plans were foiled before they could cause further harm.
A clearance operation is currently underway.
Earlier reports mentioned a massive explosion near Bannu Cantt, followed by intense gunfire.
Violence and casualties in Pakistan significantly decreased in the second quarter of 2024, according to the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) Annual Security Report.
The report indicates a 12% reduction in overall violence, with 380 fatalities reported compared to 432 in the first quarter of the year. During this period, there were 220 injuries across civilians, security personnel, and individuals involved in criminal activities, stemming from 240 incidents including terrorist attacks and counter-operations.
KP and Balochistan provinces, both bordering Afghanistan, were the focal points of violence, accounting for nearly 92% of fatalities and 87% of all attacks during this period. KP alone accounted for 67% of the total fatalities recorded in Q2 2024.
