Security forces launched an intelligence-based operation in Karak, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, targeting the presence of terrorists. The military’s media wing confirmed that at least six terrorists were killed during the action.
According to a statement from Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), troops engaged the militants effectively, eliminating all six on the spot. The statement referred to the terrorists as “khwarij” and said they had been “sent to hell.”
Following the operation, security forces carried out a sanitisation sweep in the area. Officials emphasized that eliminating terrorism remains a top priority for Pakistan’s forces, and such actions will continue to ensure peace.
Meanwhile, Pakistan saw a sharp increase in terror attacks in January 2025. Data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) revealed a 42% surge compared to December 2024. The country recorded 74 militant attacks, leading to 91 deaths. Among the fatalities were 35 security personnel, 20 civilians, and 36 militants. Additionally, 117 people suffered injuries, including 53 from security forces, 54 civilians, and 10 militants.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa experienced the highest number of terror attacks, followed by Balochistan. Within KP, militants carried out 27 attacks in settled districts, resulting in 19 deaths. Among those killed were 11 security personnel, six civilians, and two militants.
The former tribal districts of KP (erstwhile FATA) witnessed 19 militant attacks, causing 46 fatalities. These included 13 security personnel, eight civilians, and 25 militants.
