Security Forces Operation in Panjgur Kills Six Militants, ISPR Says

ISLAMABAD: A security forces operation in Panjgur led to the killing of six militants linked to the India-sponsored group Fitna al-Hindustan during an intelligence-based operation in Balochistan, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Friday.

According to the military’s media wing, security personnel launched the operation after receiving reports about the presence of militants in the Panjgur district. During the operation, troops engaged several militant hideouts and, after an intense exchange of fire, killed six militants.

The ISPR said security forces also recovered weapons, ammunition, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and vehicles from the militants. The statement added that those killed had been involved in multiple terrorist activities in the area.

Security personnel are continuing sanitisation operations to ensure that no other militants remain in the area.

The latest action comes days after separate engagements in Dera Ismail Khan and Mohmand districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where four militants associated with Fitna al-Khawarij were killed.

The military reaffirmed its commitment to continuing counter-terrorism efforts under the “Azm-e-Istehkam” strategy approved by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan. The ISPR said security forces and law enforcement agencies would continue operations against foreign-sponsored terrorism across the country.

Counter-terrorism efforts in Balochistan have intensified following a deadly blast near a railway track in Quetta on May 24. The explosion near Chaman Phatak claimed the lives of at least 14 people, including three Frontier Corps personnel, and injured several others.

Pakistan has witnessed a rise in militant violence, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, since 2021. Authorities have continued military operations and border security measures to counter terrorist threats and maintain stability in the region.
