Senate continues discussion on budget


ISLAMABAD: The Senate continued discussion on the Budget for the next fiscal year today.
Chairman Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani chaired the session.
Resuming debate on budget, Senator Nouman Wazir said the tax net should be broadened to strengthen economy.
He said Defence production institution should also come up with the viable strategy to enhance production.
He said the government is ready for Charter of Economy.
Chaudhry Tanvir Khan said unfortunately, the government has failed to provide any relief to the poor in the next budget.
Mian Ateeq Shaikh said rates of daily items have skyrocketed and industry and factories in Faisalabad and other parts of the country have shut down due to economic mismanagement of the government.
Mushtaq Ahmed Khan said the budget has proposed no solution to address current account deficit, soaring debt servicing, revive state owned enterprises, rising unemployment and poverty.
He said indirect taxes have been increased in the budget, which would add to the miseries of the common people.
Mushtaq Ahmed Khan said the government should immediately announce National Finance Commission Award.
He said the government should ensure across the board accountability instead of announcing an amnesty scheme.
