BANNU: At least four people were reportedly martyred and several others including police personnel sustained injuries in a bomb blast targeting the convoy of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal (JUI-F) leader Akram Khan Durrani in Bannu.
According to media reports, the blast took place near the convoy of the former chief minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Akram Khan Durrani in Hawaid area.
Meanwhile, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Bannu Kareem Khan has said that Akram Khan Durrani remained unhurt in the blast.
He said that the explosive material might have been planted in a motorcycle adding that rescue operation was underway and the injured people were being shifted to hospital for medical assistance.
The RPO further said that the blast took place when a corner meeting of MMA with Akram Khan Durrani in attendance concluded in Hawaid area.
Kareem Khan further said that a walk-through gate was also installed at the venue of corner meeting and around 40 police personnel were deployed for security.
Akram Khan Durrani is the candidate of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) – the political alliance of religious parties – from NA-37.
He is contesting the elections against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan.
