Shaheen Afridi created history in T20 international cricket during Pakistan’s crucial Super Eight clash against England cricket team at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 in Kandy.
Although Pakistan lost the match, Shaheen achieved a major personal milestone by becoming Pakistan’s highest wicket-taker in T20 internationals.
Shaheen Breaks Pakistan T20I Record
The left-arm pacer delivered an impressive spell, taking 4 wickets for 30 runs in his four overs. With this performance, Shaheen Afridi T20 record now stands at 135 wickets in 102 matches.
Previously, the record belonged to Haris Rauf, who has taken 133 wickets in 94 matches.
Shaheen now leads the list of Pakistan’s top T20I wicket-takers. Haris Rauf follows in second place with 133 wickets, while Shadab Khan ranks third with 114 wickets in 123 matches.
Former captain Shahid Afridi sits fourth with 96 wickets in 98 matches, and Mohammad Nawaz completes the top five with 91 wickets.
England Clinch Thriller, Reach Semi-Final
Despite Shaheen’s strong start, Pakistan failed to defend a target of 165 runs. England chased the total in the final over and won the match by two wickets.
England captain Harry Brook played a match-winning knock, scoring a brilliant century. His innings guided England into the semi-finals of the tournament.
Shaheen had struck in his very first over and gave Pakistan early momentum. However, the other bowlers could not maintain pressure. As a result, Pakistan could not capitalize on the early breakthrough.
Pakistan’s Semi-Final Hopes Uncertain
With this defeat, Pakistan’s chances of reaching the semi-finals now depend on other results. The team’s campaign hangs in the balance as the Super Eight stage intensifies.
Even though Pakistan suffered a setback, Shaheen Afridi’s T20 record remains a bright spot for the team and a proud moment for fans.
