KARACHI: The Sindh High Court has once again reinstated the ban on broadcasting Imran Khan’s speeches. The court reversed its earlier decision to suspend the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) notification, which initially prohibited the broadcast of PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s speeches in the media.
A two-member bench of the high court suspended the previous single bench’s decision, thereby restoring PEMRA’s ban on airing Imran Khan’s speeches. The court’s action followed an appeal filed by PEMRA, seeking to uphold its order against broadcasting the PTI leader’s speeches.
On November 14, the Sindh High Court had initially suspended PEMRA’s ban on airing Imran Khan’s speeches. The media regulatory body had imposed the prohibition on May 31, citing Imran Khan’s alleged dissemination of baseless allegations, hate speech, and provocative statements against state institutions and officers. PEMRA argued that such content violated Article 19 of the Constitution and Supreme Court judgments, and TV channels broadcasted it without utilizing the time-delay mechanism, violating PEMRA laws and court rulings.
