Shehbaz Sharif Meets Turkish President on UNGA sidelines

NEW YORK CITY: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Highlighting the close fraternal relations between their countries, the Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening and deepening these ties, with a particular emphasis on enhancing cooperation in the economic and defense sectors.

During their discussion, both leaders addressed bilateral relations and explored cooperation in various other fields. They also stressed the importance of expediting efforts for a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip to promote regional peace and facilitate humanitarian aid for Palestinians.

Shehbaz Sharif commended President Erdogan’s address at the UN, where he effectively raised awareness of the Palestinian plight and condemned Israeli aggression.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Shehbaz Sharif noted that they assured each other of continued support on core interests and discussed regional developments, particularly the situation in Gaza.

Speaking to the media afterward, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the support of friendly nations, including Turkiye, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and China, during challenging times. He also mentioned that Pakistan has fulfilled all the requirements set by the IMF and highlighted improvements in economic indicators, with government policies starting to show positive results.
