Lahore: Sher Afzal Marwat, senior vice president of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has been released from Kot Lakhpat Jail Lahore following his arrest outside Lahore High Court (LHC) last week.
Marwat challenged his detention under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO).
Today, the Lahore High Court ordered his release, stating that his arrest was politically motivated and unrelated to illegal activity.
Justice Shahid Shehram Sarwat nullified the PTI leader’s detention, instructing immediate release.
The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) joined in demanding Marwat’s release, condemning the arrest as a violation of human rights.
They urged a revision of the 16MPO law for justice standards and immediate release of the senior lawyer.
Previously, Marwat had alleged an “abduction” attempt by KP police en route to Gulabad near Chakdara for a party convention in Bajaur.
An FIR was also registered against him and others for organizing a worker’s convention in Swabi.
