The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released the new rankings for One Day International (ODI) cricket, resulting in a change in the positions of Pakistan cricket team’s captain Babar Azam and fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi.
According to new rankings, Indian cricket sensation Shubman Gill has dethroned Babar Azam from the top position in the the batsmen’s list, while while Indian bowler Mohammad Siraj has taken the first position, replacing Shaheen Shah Afridi.
According to the latest ICC ODI rankings, Shubman Gill holds the first position with 830 points, while Babar Azam is in the second position with 824 rating points.
Similarly, South African wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock is in the third position in the batsmen’s list, while Indian batter Virat Kohli is in the fourth position.
Babar Azam’s impressive three-year tenure as the world’s number one ODI batsman saw him achieve remarkable milestones, including holding the record for the most centuries for Pakistan and the best batting average in the country’s history.
Looking ahead, Babar Azam has an opportunity to reclaim the top spot, especially with the upcoming 2023 World Cup. The clash against England provides him a chance to showcase his batting prowess and potentially regain the lead if Pakistan qualifies for the semi-finals.
In the bowlers’ rankings, Mohammad Siraj of India has taken the top spot, with Keshav Maharaj, Adam Zampa, and Kuldeep Yadav following suit. Shaheen Afridi has relinquished his position.
The all-rounders’ rankings see Glenn Maxwell climbing four spots to secure the sixth position, while Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan maintains his position at the top.
