Sindh govt withdraws all MPO detention orders, orders immediate release of detainees

Sindh Govt Cancels MPO Orders, Orders Immediate Release of Detainees

The Sindh government has withdrawn all detention orders issued under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) law and directed the immediate release of all individuals held under those orders.

According to an official notification issued by the Sindh Home Department, all MPO orders issued between February 1 and February 9, 2026 have been cancelled with immediate effect.

Authorities have instructed the administrations of Central Jail Karachi and District Jail Malir to release all detainees held under MPO without delay.

The notification states that prisoners should be released immediately, provided they are not wanted in any other criminal case.

The decision is being seen as a major administrative move by the provincial government, affecting dozens of detainees who had been held under preventive detention during the specified period.

Officials have directed prison authorities to complete the release process urgently and submit compliance reports to the Home Department.

Legal experts say the withdrawal of MPO orders effectively removes the preventive detention status of the affected individuals, restoring their right to release unless they face separate legal charges.
