KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) issued an order on Wednesday for the registration of a case regarding a missing citizen. Alongside this directive, the SHC instructed the Sindh Home Department to promptly establish a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to investigate the matter.
Expressing concern over the disappearance of citizens, the court emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards such incidents. Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto, presiding over the case, underscored the unacceptable nature of releasing one brother from custody while another remains missing.
Furthermore, the court mandated the swift registration and investigation of cases involving missing persons. These directives were issued in response to a petition filed for the recovery of a missing individual.
Previously, during the hearing of a case concerning 10 missing citizens, the SHC voiced dissatisfaction over the lack of action by investigation officers and others involved in the search efforts. Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto highlighted the need for decisive action, stating that after 12 years, it remains unclear whether the missing persons left of their own volition or were forcibly taken.
The court also demanded reports from all jails and detention centers nationwide and summoned the head of the JIT due to the failure to locate a citizen who vanished 12 years ago from Ajmer Nagri in Karachi.
Additionally, the bench ordered financial assistance for the family of a citizen who has been missing from the Mominabad locality of Karachi since 2012.
