KARACHI: Pakistan’s Cricketer Sohaib Maqsood has accused Sindh Police of demanding a bribe during his road trip from Karachi to Multan. The incident occurred near Sakrand around midnight when the police stopped Maqsood’s vehicle. Taking to social media platform X saying Corruption at it’s peak in Sindh police.”
, Maqsood expressed frustration, labeling corruption in Sindh Police as “at its peak.”
He explained that after his team’s last match in the National T20 Cup in Karachi on Monday, where they did not qualify for the next round, he left Karachi for Multan by road with cricketer Aamir Yamin.
According to Maqsood, the police near Sakrand stopped them and initially asked for vehicle documents and later inquired about the use of high beam lights, threatening a hefty fine. Despite explaining that document checks fell under traffic police jurisdiction, the cricketer claimed they were forced to pay Rs8,000 before being allowed to continue. He also mentioned the police threatening to take them to the police station.

Maqsood, emphasizing the prevalence of corruption, later reported being stopped again even after the initial payment.

The Sindh Police chief took notice of the allegations, directing an internal investigation into the incident. Sindh Inspector General of Police, Raffat Raja, expressed concern over Maqsood’s social media post and ordered a thorough inquiry, emphasizing the need for strict action against the personnel involved.
