The Ministry of Education in Sindh has announced a major change in assessing secondary and higher secondary school students, transitioning from traditional numerical scores to a grade-based system. Starting from the 2024 academic year, students in grades 9 and 11 will be evaluated using grades instead of marks, with a full rollout planned for all grades by 2025.
The new policy introduces a 10-point grading system, approved by the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen, replacing the previous 7-point scale. Grades will now range from A++ to U, with a minimum passing score raised to 40%. An A++ will reflect exceptional performance, while A and B grades indicate strong achievement.
This change aligns Sindh’s system with international models like Cambridge, though it maintains unique elements such as the 10-point scale and the use of GPA and CGPA. The focus will be on overall student performance, moving away from competitive rankings to emphasise comprehensive academic achievement.
