In a groundbreaking move toward gender inclusivity and environmental sustainability, the Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA) has embarked on a comprehensive training program aimed at equipping 18 women with the skills to operate modern buses.
This initiative carried out in collaboration with the Motorway Police, marks a significant step forward in diversifying the transportation sector.
During the initial phase, a partnership between the Motorway Police and SMTA has facilitated specialized training for these women drivers.
The practical aspect of bus driving is being imparted by seasoned instructors from the Peoples Bus Service (PBS), a division under the umbrella of SMTA.
This strategic collaboration not only enhances the skills of aspiring women drivers but also promotes a sense of security and professionalism within the sector.
Looking ahead, the training program is set to evolve further, embracing inclusivity by incorporating transgender drivers in subsequent phases.
This pioneering approach aims to create a more diverse and supportive environment within the transportation industry, breaking down barriers and fostering equal opportunities for all.
Upon the successful completion of the training, the empowered women drivers will be deployed to operate buses for both the Bus Rapid Transit Division (BRTD) and the Peoples Bus Service (PBS).
This move not only addresses the gender gap in a traditionally male-dominated field but also contributes to the promotion of eco-friendly public transportation, aligning with global efforts for a sustainable future.
