JOHANNESBURG: South Africa has summoned the Israeli envoy to Pretoria in response to his recent behavior concerning to the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict.
Israeli envoy to South Africa, Belotsercovsky, is accused of making derogatory statements about those who speak out against strikes on Palestinians.
“Belotsercovsky is urged to adhere to the Vienna Conventions, which grant heads of diplomatic missions certain responsibilities and privileges, including recognizing the sovereign and independent decisions of the host country,” stated the South African Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
South Africa conveyed to the ambassador its deep concern over Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, resulting in the deaths of over 10,000 people, including more than 4,300 children.
Ministry officials informed Belotsercovsky that the South African government is advocating for the International Criminal Court to investigate Israeli leaders for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide in the Gaza Strip.
Reiterating South Africa’s position, officials emphasized that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict can only be resolved by ending the occupation and initiating urgent dialogues for a just and permanent peace in the region.
South Africa called for an immediate ceasefire, the establishment of humanitarian corridors, and the release of all hostages. Earlier, South Africa withdrew its diplomatic staff from Israel for consultations on Israel’s military actions in the Gaza Strip.
