Islamabad: Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, has stressed that a strong, professional, and people-friendly police force is essential for ensuring internal security and upholding the rule of law in the country.
According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the field marshal visited the National Police Academy (NPA) in Islamabad, where he met officers of the Police Service of Pakistan and held detailed discussions on policing challenges and reforms. Federal Interior Minister and Minister of State for Interior were also present on the occasion.
Upon his arrival at the academy, the commandant of the National Police Academy warmly received the field marshal, while a smartly turned-out police contingent presented him with a guard of honour.
During the visit, Field Marshal Asim Munir laid a floral wreath at the Police Martyrs’ Memorial and offered prayers, paying rich tribute to police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty while protecting public safety, enforcing the law, and maintaining peace.
He lauded the unmatched sacrifices of police officers in combating terrorism, crime, and other internal security challenges, acknowledging their role as the front line defenders of citizens’ lives, property, and dignity.
The field marshal was also briefed on ongoing training programmes at the academy, including initiatives under the School for High Impact Elite Law Enforcement Development (SHIELD), aimed at enhancing police capacity, modernization, and professional skills.
Interacting with Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs), Field Marshal Asim Munir emphasised the importance of institutional coordination, modern policing techniques, and building public trust.
“Police is the first line of defense for the protection of citizens,” he said, adding that maintaining law and order is a sacred responsibility. He reaffirmed that the Pakistan Armed Forces stand shoulder to shoulder with brave police personnel in ensuring peace and stability.
The ISPR statement further said that senior police leadership reiterated their commitment to improving policing standards, enhancing professional competence, and implementing institutional reforms to effectively respond to evolving security challenges.
