Security forces conducted a successful operation in the Tank district, neutralizing seven terrorists, including a senior figure of the banned militant group ‘Fitna al-Khawarij.’ The operation occurred on the night between December 17 and 18. It was launched following credible intelligence reports about militant activity in the area.
According to security officials, this intelligence-based operation (IBO) specifically targeted militants hiding in the region. Among those killed was Ali Rahman, also known as Maulana Taha Swati. He was a senior leader of ‘Fitna al-Khawarij’ and one of the most wanted militants in the country. Seven additional terrorists were also eliminated during the operation.
Ali Rahman was a prominent member of the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) since 2010. He had close ties with Maulana Fazlullah, the notorious head of ‘Fitna al-Khawarij.’ Rahman also served on the TTP’s consultative body, or Shura. His strong connections with another militant leader, Qari Amjad alias Mufti Muzahim, further emphasized his influence within the organization.
During the operation, one terrorist attempted to evade capture by dressing as a woman. He took two children hostage and used them as human shields inside a house. Despite the challenges, security forces acted swiftly. They safely rescued the children and eliminated the militant.
Locals in the Tank district praised the Pakistani Army for rescuing the children. They expressed gratitude for the forces’ quick and effective response. Authorities also seized a vehicle loaded with weapons and explosives during the raid. Security sources believe this vehicle was prepared for a significant terrorist attack.
The Tank district operation adds to the series of successful actions targeting ‘Fitna al-Khawarij.’ Many top leaders of the group have been neutralized in recent years. Security sources highlighted the increasing collaboration between ‘Fitna al-Khawarij’ and the Afghan Taliban. This alliance poses a growing threat to both regional and global security. Despite Pakistan sharing credible evidence of this collaboration with the Afghan interim government, no meaningful action has been taken so far.
The authorities stressed that these connections between the ‘Khawarij’ and Afghan Taliban demand urgent international attention. The operation in the Tank district stands as a critical step toward combating terrorism in the region.
