ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan, on Tuesday, rejected a review petition concerning constituencies in Balochistan’s PB-12 constituency, emphasizing that electoral constituencies cannot be altered once the election schedule is released.
Details reveal that petitioner Amir Khan had approached the Supreme Court against the Balochistan High Court’s (BHC) decision. The three-member bench, led by Acting Chief Justice Sardar Tariq Masood, dismissed the petition.
The Supreme Court also dismissed another petition seeking to postpone the elections, where objections were raised regarding electoral constituencies.
Acting Chief Justice Sardar Tariq Masood emphasized the significance of the general election date, stating that it brings stability to the country. He noted that decisions on electoral constituencies should not disrupt the election process once the election program is released.
Petitioner Qamar Afzal, a lawyer, argued that an erroneous decision had been made regarding electoral constituencies. Justice Mansoor Ali Shah responded, highlighting that the election program has already been released, and altering decisions on individual petitions would disrupt the election process.
Justice Mansoor Ali Shah made it clear that the date of general elections on February 8 would not be disturbed based on such petitions. Justice Athar Minullah emphasized that there should be no delays in the elections, and no one would be allowed to cause such delays.
Ultimately, the Supreme Court dismissed the review petition related to the delimitation of Constituency PB-12 in Balochistan.
