Swat Expressway Accident: Death Toll Rises to 18 After Deadly Bus and Van Collision

SWAT: The death toll in the Swat Expressway accident has risen to 18 after two more injured passengers died during treatment on Monday night, hospital officials confirmed.

Authorities said the Swat Expressway accident involved a high-speed collision between a van and a bus earlier in the day, leaving multiple people dead and several others injured.

A spokesperson for Mardan Medical Complex stated that all bodies have been handed over to the families of the deceased. At present, five injured victims are receiving treatment in different hospital wards, where doctors continue to provide medical care.

The hospital administration said efforts are being made to ensure the best possible treatment for the injured patients recovering from the Swat Expressway accident.

According to motorway police, the crash occurred due to negligence by the van driver. Officials said the speeding van hit a stationary bus from behind on the motorway.

The bus involved in the accident was traveling from Karachi to Buner, while the van was heading from Rawalpindi to Dir when the collision took place.

Police further added that investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances of the Swat Expressway accident and to establish responsibility.

The incident has once again raised concerns about road safety and speeding on highways, where negligence continues to cause serious and often fatal accidents.
