ISLAMABAD: A joint meeting of the Pak-Afghan Joint Coordination Council will be held in Islamabad today (Wednesday), for which a senior delegation of the Afghan Taliban government has reached Islamabad.
The Afghan Taliban government has sent a senior delegation, comprising officials from the Ministry of Defense, Information, and Intelligence, to engage in bilateral talks with their Pakistani counterparts.
Leading the delegation is Mullah Shirin Akhund, a senior Taliban figure and the governor of Kandahar. During their visit, the delegation is scheduled to meet with various Pakistani officials, including Special Representative for Afghanistan Asif Durrani, as well as representatives from the Foreign Office and military.
The primary focus of discussions will center around ways to alleviate tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Key topics on the agenda include addressing concerns about the misuse of Afghan territory by banned groups targeting Pakistan, as well as the issue of safe havens for terrorists within Afghanistan.
Moreover, the Afghan delegation is expected to face requests for the extradition of individuals like Hafiz Gul Bahadur and other banned terrorists. Furthermore, discussions may touch upon matters such as visa-free transportation across the Pak-Afghan border fence and the Chaman border.
