The Taliban government in Afghanistan has fired more than 280 security personnel for not having beards. This action comes after the Taliban took over the government and issued new guidelines for all civil servants. The guidelines made it mandatory for government employees not to shave their beards and to wear local dress.
In its ongoing directives, the Taliban government emphasized the importance of adhering to these rules. On Tuesday, the Ministry of Peace and Justice, in its annual report, announced that over 280 members of the security forces were dismissed for failing to comply with the beard policy.
Muhaibullah Makhlis, the director of planning and legislation at the ministry, stated that the beardless officers in the security force were specifically identified and then removed from their positions. The ministry further revealed that last year, more than 13,000 people in Afghanistan were detained on charges of immoral activities.
This strict enforcement of the beard policy highlights the Taliban’s focus on imposing traditional values within Afghanistan. The beard mandate is part of a broader effort by the Taliban to ensure that government employees adhere to their interpretation of Islamic principles.
