PESHAWAR: At least four police personnel were martyred in separate terrorist attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lakki Marwat and Bannu districts on Sunday, officials said.
In Lakki Marwat, three traffic police officials were martyred when unidentified terrorists opened fire on them in the Sarai Naurang area. According to police, the officers were performing routine duty near Dil Begu Khel when armed assailants riding a motorcycle targeted them and fled the scene.
Police spokesperson Qudratullah told that all three officials embraced martyrdom on the spot. The martyred personnel were identified as Ticketing Officer Incharge Jalal Khan, and traffic police officials Azizullah and Abdullah.
The bodies were shifted to Naurang Hospital, while police launched a search operation in the area to trace the attackers.
In a separate incident, a police constable was martyred in a firing attack in the Kashfi Khel area of Bannu district. Bannu DPO spokesperson Asif Hasan said that Constable Rashid Khan was leaving his house for duty early Sunday morning when unknown gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire on him.
Following the incident, a heavy police contingent cordoned off the area, collected forensic evidence, and launched a search operation to arrest those involved.
Security across the region has been tightened as investigations into both attacks are underway.
