Pakistan Terrorism 2025: 34% Surge in Attacks & Deaths

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan witnessed a sharp rise in terrorism in 2025, with incidents increasing by 34 percent compared to the previous year, according to the Pakistan Security Report 2025 released by the Pakistan Institute of Peace Studies (PIPS).

The report states that a total of 699 terrorist attacks took place across the country in 2025, resulting in 1,034 fatalities, marking a 21 percent increase in deaths from terrorism. Additionally, 1,366 people were injured, indicating a concerning surge in human losses.

Security forces and law enforcement agencies bore the brunt of the attacks. The report revealed that 437 personnel were martyred, including 174 police officers, 122 army soldiers, and 107 Frontier Corps (FC) personnel. Civilians also suffered, with 354 killed in various terrorist incidents.

Counter-terrorism operations and anti-terror raids led to the killing of 243 terrorists in 2025. Of the total attacks, 454 were carried out by militant groups, showing a significant rise in extremist activities compared to 2024.

The report identifies banned organizations, including the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Hafiz Gul Bahadur group, Lashkar-i-Islam, and ISIS-Khorasan, as the main perpetrators. These groups were responsible for 679 deaths and 881 injuries in attacks during the year.

The Pakistan Security Report 2025 underscores the continuing threat posed by militant organizations and highlights the urgent need for enhanced security measures and counter-terrorism strategies nationwide.
