ISLAMABAD: The PTI’s political committee met last night to discuss the future of the November 24 protest march. The committee was divided over whether to cancel the protest in light of the Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) decision and the controversy sparked by Bushra Bibi’s statement.
Several members of the PTI’s political committee, who were part of the meeting, expressed support for canceling the protest march. They believed it would be wise to allow a dialogue with the government instead of going ahead with the planned march.
The committee then decided to present the option of canceling the protest to Imran Khan, the PTI’s founder and former chairman, who is currently in jail. They agreed to wait for his approval before making any final decision on the matter.
After this, a group of PTI leaders traveled to Adiala Jail to meet Imran Khan, but they were unable to see him. Later, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur called a meeting in Peshawar to continue discussing the protest march.
Barrister Saif, adviser to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa CM, stated that although he wasn’t part of the political committee, there were ongoing conversations within the party about possibly challenging the IHC’s decision.
Meanwhile, a controversy also arose over Bushra Bibi’s video statement regarding Saudi Arabia. Many members of the political committee were upset by her remarks. Despite this, the committee did not decide to publicly reject her statement. Some suggested that PTI should distance itself from Bushra’s comments and let her defend herself. However, no conclusion was reached on how to handle the issue.
