Three militants were killed in an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Khyber district, the military confirmed on Monday. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) issued a statement saying that the operation was launched in the Tor Darra area of Khyber on the reported presence of terrorists.
Security personnel launched a swift response. They effectively targeted the hideout of the militants. As a result, three terrorists were neutralized on the spot.
According to ISPR, weapons and ammunition were recovered from the dead assailants. The armed men were involved in multiple terror attacks across the region. Their activities had caused serious unrest and posed a threat to public safety.
After the operation, a sanitisation effort was initiated to clear the area of any remaining threats. ISPR added that Pakistan’s forces remain committed to eradicating terrorism from every corner of the country.
This successful operation followed another major incident last week. The Pakistan Army foiled a suicide terror attack on a checkpost in the Jandola area of South Waziristan. The attempt was met with heavy resistance by the troops. The attackers, unable to breach the post, rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the boundary wall. Ten terrorists were eliminated during that confrontation.
Meanwhile, January 2025 saw a sharp rise in terror attacks across Pakistan. According to data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), militant activity surged by 42% compared to the previous month.
The think tank reported 74 militant incidents nationwide. These attacks claimed 91 lives, including 35 security personnel, 20 civilians, and 36 militants. At least 117 people were injured — 53 from security forces, 54 civilians, and 10 attackers.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was the most affected province during this surge in terror attacks. In KP’s settled districts alone, 27 militant incidents took place. These attacks resulted in 19 deaths, including 11 security forces members, six civilians, and two militants.
The tribal districts, formerly known as FATA, also faced intense violence. A total of 19 incidents occurred in those areas. These attacks killed 46 people, including 13 soldiers, eight civilians, and 25 militants.
Balochistan was another hotspot during this wave of violence. The province witnessed at least 24 terror attacks, which led to 26 deaths. Among the victims were 11 security personnel, six civilians, and nine militants.
Pakistan’s security forces continue to push back against growing militant threats. The country remains in the grip of rising extremism, but the resolve to fight back remains firm.
