TURBAT: A powerful explosion in Turbat, Balochistan, on Saturday claimed the lives of four people and left 32 others injured, police reported. Among the injured, five are in critical condition. The exact nature of the Turbat blast has yet to be determined.
CCTV footage from the area captured the moment of the explosion. Vehicles were seen moving along the road when a sudden burst of flames engulfed a passenger bus.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Serious Crime Wing, Zohaib Mohsin, was injured in the Turbat blast. Police confirmed that six members of his family also sustained injuries. They were passing through the area when the explosion occurred.
The tragic incident comes just weeks after another blast in Turbat’s Dasht area, which killed two people and injured four. In that case, an improvised explosive device (IED) was used, also causing damage to a vehicle.
Balochistan remains one of the hardest-hit regions by terrorist attacks. According to the Center for Research and Security Studies’ Annual Security Report, the province accounted for 782 deaths out of Pakistan’s total 2,546 fatalities in 2024. Experts link the rise in such attacks to the return of the Taliban government in neighboring Afghanistan.
