Washington: In a shocking development, U.S. President Donald Trump has confirmed a large-scale military attack on Venezuela.
In a statement posted on the social media platform Truth, President Trump announced that the United States had launched significant attacks on Venezuela and its leadership. He further stated that the Venezuelan president and his wife have been captured and moved out of the country.
According to U.S. media reports, Trump is expected to hold a press conference at 9 PM Pakistani time to provide further details on the situation in Venezuela.
Details of the Attack
U.S. media sources reported that the attacks targeted Venezuela’s capital, Caracas, where at least seven explosions were reported. A U.S. official, speaking to news agencies, confirmed that military operations were underway against Venezuela.
The Venezuelan government confirmed that the attacks affected the states of Caracas, Miranda, Aragua, and La Guaira. According to Venezuelan authorities, the attacks appear aimed at seizing the country’s oil and mineral resources.
In response, the Venezuelan government warned that the United States would not succeed in gaining control of its resources and condemned the military aggression. President Maduro has declared a state of emergency following the attacks.
Meanwhile, Russian media claimed that the U.S. strikes targeted Venezuela’s defense headquarters and reported that President Maduro had vacated the presidential palace.
Colombian President Iván Duque also reported that missiles were being fired at Caracas and called for an emergency session of the UN Security Council in response to the attacks.
