US President Donald Trump has warned that the United States will intervene if Iranian authorities use violence against peaceful protesters.
In a statement posted on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said that if Iran resorts to violence or kills peaceful demonstrators, the United States will come forward to protect them.
“We are fully prepared to go,” Trump wrote, issuing a clear warning to Tehran over its handling of ongoing protests.
Reacting to Trump’s remarks, senior adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Ali Larijani, said that any US interference in Iran’s internal affairs would amount to spreading chaos in the region.
Larijani stated that Trump should understand that American intervention in Iran’s protest situation would only fuel instability and disorder across the region.
It is worth recalling that protests have been ongoing across Iran for several days over rising inflation and the sharp decline in the value of the national currency. A day earlier, clashes between Iranian security forces and protesters reportedly left six demonstrators dead, while at least 30 others were arrested.
