Trump’s policy to succeed only if Pak shuns terrorists: Swaraj

NEW DELHI: The Indian Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj has said that Pakistan should be isolated globally adding that Trump’s policy for Afghanistan would be successful only if Pakistan shuns terrorists.
Addressing a joint press conference with the US Secretary of State in New Delhi, Swaraj said that she discussed Pak-based terrorists in her meeting with Tillerson saying that no country should be a sanctuary for terrorists.
She added that India, USA and Afghanistan trilateral meeting would be held in December, avoiding from going into details as to where the meeting would be held and whether or not Taliban would be invited for it.
The Minister said she was happy to inform that defence and strategic relations between India and the US have deepened after Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the latter.
For his part, the US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said that India and US were natural allies and Washington would continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with India in fighting terrorism.
He added that India and US have had close relations for more than 70 years and added that the future of India-US partnership have never looked brighter.
Tillerson added that India was crucial to USA-Afghanistan strategy and the US would back India as a leader in the region.
