HANGU: At least five worshippers were killed and 15 others were wounded when two suicide bombers attacked a masjid during Friday prayer in Hangu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The masjid was inside Doaba Police Station.
As per the District Police Officer, two suicide bombers targeted the masjid, initiating the attack by opening fire. Police successfully neutralized one suicide bomber at the mosque’s entrance through gunfire. Unfortunately, the other assailant managed to enter inside the masjid and detonated himself, where 30 to 40 worshippers were busy in Friday prayer. He said that two policemen were also injured in the terrorists firing.
According to SHO Shabraz, the blast ripped through the masjid during the last sermon of Friday prayers. Roof of the masjid collapsed following an explosive blast that left 12 more injured.
security forces cordoned off the area after the blast while rescuers started rescue operation and shifted the injured people to District Headquarters Hospital where state emergency has already been declared.
Deputy Commissioner Fazl-e-Akbar said that condition of three injured people are said to be critical.
Earlier in the day, a deadly suicide bombing at Eid Milad-ul-Nabi main procession killed 45 people and injured 70 others.
